Adult Education

Courses are taught by Gabriel Ross, (BA Religious Studies, MA Catechetics and Liturgy).

Gabriel has taught college courses and adult education programs in Theology and Religious Studies and she is a highly sought speaker in the Twin Cities Area.

PROGRAMS

Longer Series:

Introduction to World Religions
(eight 2 hour sessions)

Participants discuss the commonality of religious experience and are introduced to the major
movements in world religions including Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Native American Spirituality. The sessions include input, discussion and ritual.

Eco-Spirituality (four 2 hour sessions)

An introduction to the concepts and practice of eco-spirituality. The teachings of St. Francis of Assisi are explored and the writings of the US Catholic Conference are presented and discussed. The sessions include input, discussion and prayer, inviting participants to a sense
of wonder that expands our awareness of the Divine Mystery. If an outside area is available, this experience is well suited to be held in creation.

Who do you say that I am? Christology Update
(six-eight sessions at 1.5 hours)

Using a study book and handouts, participants read and discuss contemporary ideas in Jesus research. Class time includes input, discussion and can include prayer.


Journal Writing as a Spiritual Practice
(seven 2 hour sessions)

Keeping a spiritual journal is a wonderful way to do soul work. Participants will explore a variety of journaling techniques to gain personal and spiritual insights. Excerpts from spiritual writers, reflection questions and visual aids are used to initiate journaling.

Scripture: Basic Introduction to Scripture Study
(four 1.5 hour sessions)

In this exciting four week course we discuss questions like: What is the Catholic approach to reading scripture today? What did Vatican II say about reading scripture? What kind of writing do we find in scripture? How do we get to the meaning of scripture? What is the
historical/critical method? Each session includes input, discussion and time for questions.

The Hebrew Scriptures (five 1.5 hour sessions)
The Gospels (five 1.5 hour sessions)

Short Courses:

Images of God and the Spiritual Journey
(one 2 or 3 hour session or two 1.5 hour sessions)

Participants explore many different concepts of the divine and review their own faith development as a spiritual journey. This event includes, input, reflection, discussion, prayer and works well as a beginning of the year kick-off for adult education programs as well as a

Lenten reflection.

Pray All Ways
(two or more 1.5 hour sessions)

Participants are introduced to several different and creative styles of prayer and are then invited to participate in prayer experiences. The sessions include input, discussion, reflection, creative time and prayer.

Seasons of Faith: focus on Advent or Lent
(two or three 1.5 or 2 hour sessions)

The themes of these two deeply inviting seasons come alive for participants. The sessions include input, ritual, prayer and discussion. Explore Advent as a season of waiting and hope -
beyond the commercialism of the holiday. Discover new meaning in the Lenten traditions of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

Catholic Social Teaching: (two sessions of 1.5 hours or one 3 hour session)

Explore the principles of Catholic Social teaching and the challenge they offer our lives today. Learn a process toward action and understand the differences between charity and justice. The workshop includes presentation, lively discussion, drama and prayer.
